Nuclear proteins of tumors and other tissues: a review.

A number of factors have contributed to the progressively increasing number of studies on nu clear proteins in the last decade. Improved meth ods have become available for the separation of nuclei from cytoplasmic cellular constituents in a structurally recognizable form, at the same time that important advances have been made in the fractionation of nuclear proteins and the analysis of their constituent amino acids. Moreover, it has become possible to apply tracer technics to the metabolism of nuclear constituents, and, with this advance, studies are being made in this and other laboratories on the kinetics of labeling of nuclear proteins of neoplastic tissues, normal growing tis sues, and nongrowing tissues. This review is lim ited to newer aspects of nuclear protein chemistry not already covered in the previous excellent re views of this subject (10, 64, 68, 133).
